Hi friends! Thank you so much for joining us here.

We hope to provide you with some questions to spark reflection on the Psalms.

You can listen to Psalm 61 here. You can find Psalm 61 in the New International Version here.

Journal Starter for Psalm 61

Read and/or pray Psalm 61 silently or out loud. You can use the link above to see the passage in the New International Version or read the International Standard Version below:

1 God, hear my cry;
    pay attention to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth I will cry to you
    whenever my heart is overwhelmed.
        Place me on the rock that’s too high for me.
3 For you have been a refuge for me,
    a tower of strength before the enemy.
4 Let me make my home in your tent forever;
    let me hide under the shelter of your wings.
Interlude
5 For you, God, have heard my promises;
    you have assigned to me[b] the heritage of those who fear your name.
6 Add day after day to the king’s life;
    may his years continue for many generations.
7 May he be enthroned before God forever;
    Appoint your gracious love and truth to guard him.
8 So I will sing songs to your name forever;
    I will fulfill my promises day by day.
David brought many request to God in this psalm.
Write down or talk to God about the requests in this psalm you want to bring to Him.
Here are some examples:
"Hear me, God." God, hear my cry;/ pay attention to my prayer. Verse 1
"Help me go where I cannot go on my own."   Place me on the rock that’s too high for me. Verse 2
"Let me always be with You, God." Let me make my home in your tent forever. Verse 4
"Grant me a long life, God." Add day after day to the king’s life;/ may his years continue for many generations. Verse 6
"Protect me with your love and truth." May he be enthroned before God forever;/ Appoint your gracious love and truth to guard him. Verse 7
Over the course of his life, God answered these requests in David's life made many times!
Write to God, thanking Him for the times He has answered these prayer requests in your life (if anything comes to mind). How has God protected you? How has God helped you to do what you could not do on your own?
Is there anything in this psalm that is difficult for you to believe or understand? Write to God about it and/or consider talking to a Christian friend or M2S chaplain!
