From Questions To Lullabies
You can listen to Psalm 4 below and read the passage in the New International Version here.
“Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
How long will you people turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?
Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
Tremble and do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.”
Hi friends! Thank you so much for joining us here.
We hope to provide you with some questions to spark reflection on the Psalms. If you want to, you can share some of your thoughts in the comments section below. We would love to hear how God is working in your heart.
In Psalm 4, David is honest about his distress— his suffering, pain, hardship, and unrest.
Write/tell God about what is going on in your life and heart right now. You can be completely honest with Him. What questions do you have for God? What pain are you experiencing right now as the result of other people’s actions?
In the first verse, David says to God, “Hear my prayer.” Later, he says with confidence, “The LORD hears when I call to him.”
David goes on to express his confidence that:
1) God is worthy of worship and is trustworthy (verse 5).
2) God is the One who brings light and joy (verses 6-7).
3) God is the One who gives peace, safety, and sleep (verse 8).
