Majestic Is Your Name
You can listen to Psalm 8 below and read the passage in the New International Version here.
“Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Hi friends! Thank you so much for joining us here.
We hope to provide you with some questions to spark reflection on the Psalms.
If you want to, you can share some of your thoughts in the comments section below. We would love to hear how God is working in your heart.
The first and final verses of Psalm 8 read, “LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” The first “LORD” is the name used for God alone— Yahweh. The second, “our Lord,” means “our Sovereign.” Sovereign means the one in control.
Yahweh, our God who has control over all things, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth!
How do you see God’s majesty on the earth? Write about a time you were amazed by the beauty of creation. [If you’ve captured any of these amazing, beautiful moments in creation, feel free to share them with us using the hashtag #WhatISeeAtSea.]
Journal Starter for Psalm 8
Write about how you see/have seen God’s majesty in His supreme power and control over all things.
Verse two describes how God uses the praises of children and infants powerfully against His enemies— the forces of darkness. Children and infants are weak by the world’s standards, but God uses them powerfully when they praise His name.
In what situations do you feel powerless— like a child or baby?
Do you believe God can use you to fight the powers of darkness? Why or why not?
David writes about how amazing it is that the God of the universe— the maker of the moon and stars— is mindful of humans and cares for them. Not only that, God has also crowned humankind “with glory and honor.” He even put us in charge of caring for His earth.
What difference does it make that God cares about you? When do you have a hard time believing He cares for you?
