Care And Power
You can listen to Psalm 65 below and read the passage in the New International Version here.
“Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.”
Hi friends! Thank you so much for joining us here.
We hope these journal starters spark reflection on the Psalms.
If you want to, you can share some of your thoughts in the comments section below. We would love to hear how God is working in your heart.
Journal Starter for Psalm 65
David wrote that he and the people would fulfill their vows to God.
Pray/write about the ways you have decided to life your live for God. If you are committed to Him, what does that commitment look like?
How do you feel about your commitments to God? How do you think David felt about his vows to God at the time he wrote this psalm?
David wrote in verses two and three:
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
Here we see two ways God takes care of us: He answers our prayers and He forgives our transgressions (sins).Spend some time praising God for answering your prayers and forgiving you.
If you feel overwhelmed by your sins right now, confess them to God. You can be completely honest with Him. 1 John 1:8-9 say this, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
David praised God for the way nature reveals His strength and power.
Write about how you see God's strength and beauty in nature. [We would love to see photos of the beauty you see on ship! Use the tag #whatiseeatsea on Instagram and/or email your photo to info@ministrytoseafarers.org]
God not only reveals His strength and beauty through nature, He also provides for (takes care of) people through nature.
Write about and praise God for the ways He takes care of you though nature.
Is there anything confusing or difficult for you to believe in this passage? Write to God about it. We also invite you to reach out to a Christian friend or one of our chaplains! They would love to talk to you about the Bible!
