Do You Know Where You Are Going?
With experience, traveling gets easier. If we have previously navigated a port or are familiar with the local language, it is not so overwhelming to get where we need to go. But if we don't really know where we are going or if we can't speak the language, we can soon feel lost, and our travel can get really tough.
Abraham was in a situation like that. If we try to put ourselves in his sandals, we can see that it was no small thing to obey and follow God's leading. God promised that Abraham would be a great nation and bring great blessings for "all peoples on earth" (Genesis 12:2-3), but that would require a long journey and a new start, living among strangers in a faraway land. "He did not know where he was going."
When Abraham arrived at his destination, he built an altar and dedicated it to the Lord, who had brought him there (Genesis 12:7). What a wonderful response in the midst of one of the most memorable pilgrimages in Scripture.
Where has God brought you, and how have you responded? Have you worshiped God for his faithfulness to you?
God continues to promise us spiritual blessings in this life and the next. So let's not forget to dedicate the steps of our lives to him, even if, as with Abraham, it is unclear exactly where God is leading.
For Further Thought
Why is having faith so important in the journey of life?
Why should we trust God even though we don't know exactly what will happen to us?
When God has shown his faithfulness to you, what have you done to show your gratitude?
Prayer
True God, I dedicate my life to you. Nothing that I have is mine alone; it all belongs to you. Use me and mold me after your will, I pray. In Jesus' name, Amen.
